Start Wedding Planning Here!

You’re engaged!! Congrats!!  I bet that you already have half of your wedding planned (on Pinterest at least), but I am here to give you a few tips on the first steps you should take when it comes to planning your wedding!

While most people aren’t wedding planning professionals, somehow as soon as you get engaged, you are expected to become one for this once-in-a-lifetime event. Having been part of the planning process with many couples (including planning my own wedding), I’ve learned a few key things that can make the start of your wedding planning journey a whole lot smoother. Here’s where to begin:

#1 Talk with your partner!

Step one is to talk with your partner. Start by talking about what each of you wants out of the wedding day. Talk through the size, location, budget, and feel of the wedding. All of that will be very important as you go forward with wedding planning and it is a great way to start your wedding journey on the same team. #2 Book your venue

The venue is what will dictate the date & location of your wedding day, so start by booking this first! Once that is secured, you can move forward with booking key vendors including photography & videography, planner, DJ, and catering.

#3 Make decisions based on you + your partner!

Wedding planning can be overwhelming especially when you open social media and are immediately flooded with photos of picture perfect wedding days, trendy wedding hacks, DIY  ideas, the best wedding destinations, the perfect florals, the most beautiful dresses… you get what I’m saying. It is very easy to be influenced by all of this when it comes to your own wedding, but with each decision you make for your wedding day, I encourage you to take a step back and ask yourself, “Does this feel like us?” If it does, then absolutely make it a part of your wedding day. If it doesn’t, then let it go. It wasn’t meant to be a part of your day anyway. Find things that feel like you so that you can look back on your wedding and know that it was exactly what you wanted.

#4 Cut out the noise

Early in the wedding planning process, make a decision with your fiance to only take advice on the wedding planning from a select group of people. Too many voices can create confusion and frustration. Cut out the noise and only allow the key decision makers in on all the details- you, your partner, possibly parents, and wedding planners. Not everyone needs an opinion on your wedding day.

#5 Have a month-to-month to-do list

Leading up to the wedding day there will be a million things to do, but that doesn’t mean you have to plan everything at once. It will be so much easier if you have a checklist that breaks it all down for you. Click here to find a blog post with a month-by-month wedding planning checklist!

I know that wedding planning can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. I want you to have an amazing wedding, and that starts with having a positive planning experience.
